Ink on silk, hanging scroll.  Artist Soga Shôhaku, 1730-1781 , about 1770’s, Japan.

The piece shows five military commanders whose names are on each flag or fan. They are soldiers in Nanboku-chô period, perhaps worked for Nitta Yoshisada. Shôhaku proclaimed himself as a descendant of Miura Daisuke Yoshiaki. He must have been knowledgeable about military commander families.
